Malichaedit

From Constructed Mythology

The Land of Malicha.

Malicha is the Northern region of a continent on the planet of Sideria with an environment quite similar to that of Earth.

Many races inhabit Malicha, including: Humans, Elves (much like the ones found in the fictional Middle Earth), Dwarves, Orcs (a deviation of the Elf), Gnomes (or Midget Elves), Ents (a race of trees given life by a Xylomancer), and Dragons, to name a few.

See the Notes at the bottom of the page for more information about the back-story in Malicha.

Contents

[edit] Origin

"In the beginning there was stuff. This stuff asploded and became our universe. The stuff was promptly shot. ..."
-The introduction to a book on the creation of everything.

There is no factual or scientific information behind the creation and formation of Sideria, also known as Terra Beta.

[edit] Name

"What's in a name?" -One woman to her future husband.
"Letters." -Said future husband's reply.

The name "Sideria" refers to the name the mythical Dragonkin gave the world where Malicha resides in. The Dragonkin supposedly wanted a world where many forms of life from hundreds of planets could reside together. Thus, as a coincidence, the name is similar to siderial, meaning "in relation to the Universe."

The name "Malicha" comes from an Elvish word meaning "Life". When loosely connected, it is believed that the Elves came from some other planet, the same as humans did. The elves supposedly had once lived on a planet that was a barren wasteland. They used magic in order to sustain their lives. When they found Malicha for whatever reason, they were astounded at how lush and full the place was.

[edit] Religions

"... Look, I can't prove that this thing exists because there is no proof! I'm just trying to say that my faith in the Invisible Brown Sludge is reasonable, logical, and should be treated with some respect. ..."
-One man's testament to Lord Tonswe about the potential creator of Sideria; this idea was thrown out, but still has a strong base of believers.

According to the Elves living in the realm of Nimikor, Sideria (the name of the planet where Malicha is) was created by a family of demigods called the Dragonkin. The Dragonkin were the offspring of the Elvish god, Theopi, and a female dragon from another world. The Dragonkin created the World to house their own offspring, who took many forms including the elves and Malichan dragons. Today, the elves and dragons worship Theopi, and subsequently, the Dragonkin.

When translated into the Humans' language, Sideria means "in relation to the Universe." This makes sense, because the planet has many races, from many different worlds. This is also where the name of the humans' concept of "siderial time" came from.

[edit] Contrary belief

"Bah-ha-ha-ha-ha!"
-Non-believers when explained a religion other than their own.

Other races, such as the humans and dwarves, have contrary beliefs.

[edit] Humans

"How many legions does the truth have?"
-A cynical ruler of an oppressed country, after being told to search for truth.

The humans believe they had come from another planet which was once called Terra; they call Malicha's world "Terra Beta," in the traditional Malichan Languages. When put together in Anglo, Terra Beta means "Second Earth." The humans also believe in a single "God" person, who is split into three gods in some way. This supposedly came from one of the religions of Terra. They also believe that this God's spirit, which they call the Holy Spirit, grants power in three forms: Magic, Melee, and Archery. These powers become a main role in the conflict between the humans during the story of the Knights of Malicha

[edit] Dwarves

"Some people actually believe we dwarves just... sprang up out of the ground!"
-A dwarf historian on female dwarves.

The dwarves believe that they were created because of a massive earthquake which shook the ground so much that many of the first dwarves sprung from the ground. They believe that whenever a mother dwarf gives birth, the "Earthquake of Creation" is re-enacted.

[edit] Orcs

"Bah! Religion? Kotor!"
-An orc general after being asked what he thinks about religion.

The orcs believe a tale similar to the elves' story, but they believe they were created as a result of a feud between the Dragonkin. The Dragonkin had slain their wives, who were carrying eggs at the time, and those eggs hatched into elves and dragons. History says the orcs had deviated from the elves because of this belief and other controversies.

[edit] Antitheistic Beliefs

"Religion? You mean Gods? Oh, yes! The Gods were too much trouble, so we slew them a millennium ago."
-An orcish lore-keeper, after being asked what their religion is like.

While there are different classifications of religions (Polytheism, the belief in multiple gods; Monotheism, the belief in one god; and Atheism, the belief that there are no gods), there is only one category that hates their own god(s), which is Antitheism. The orcs and, to an extent, the gnomes believe that their gods are evil, and thus hate them.

[edit] Scientific/Fact-Based Religions

Some religions in Malicha are based on fact, and not just superstition. These can come intertwined with other above religions.

[edit] Magic

"Any technology incomprehensible to the culture of the time is indistinguishable from magic."
-One scientist on the subject of technology and magic.

There are two views on Magic in Malicha:

  • Fundamentalist Magic
  • Reformist Magic

[edit] Fundamentalist Magic

Fundamentalist magic, also called "Old," "Light," or "Arcane" magic, was the original view of magic at the time. It is used primarily in aid, and sometimes combat, and is the more colloquially-referred "magic."

The five basic elements of magic are fire, water, earth, air, and arcane. These elements make up many of the different spells. When called upon, they will aid in any way the individual elements can. Other powers may be able to help, as well.

[edit] Reformist Magic

Reformist magic, or "New," "Dark," or "Shadow" magic, was found to be stronger than the Arcane, but also has greater consequences, including: earlier death, more prone to disease, and/or weakness in the physical body. This is primarily used for combat, but may also be used for alchemy (such as potions) or, on rare occasion, Necromancy.

Reformist magic, like Fundamentalist magic, has five basic elements: fire, ice, smoke, blood, and shadow. The same other powers may be used to aid the user to cast powerful, but costly, spells.

[edit] Races

The races in Malicha differ greatly, varying from humanoid mammals, dinosaur-like dragons, and other beings that came from other worlds. Here are a few:

  • Humans
  • Elves
    • Orcs
    • Gnomes
  • Dwarves
  • Ents
  • Dragons

[edit] Humans

If you're reading this, you're most likely a human who doesn't need to know what the race looks like. If, however, the information of how they came around was given away, it would spoil a whole story in the history of Malicha.

[edit] Elves

Elves, or "the Race of the Stars," are a race that looks much like the portrayal of J. R. R. Tolkien's Lord of the Rings trilogy. If you are not familiar with this tale, please ask someone you know about it.

The elves believe that they were created by a family of demigods called the Dragonkin. Please see this article's section on Religion to learn more about this belief.

[edit] Gnomes

Gnomes, or "Midget Elves," are much like the elves; however, just like their nickname suggests, they are shorter. Think: Santa's elf workers. That's what they look like.

[edit] Orcs

Orcs are a reptile-like deviation of the Elves. They are a race prone to liking wars, and subsequently, are more prone to violence.

[edit] Dwarves

Dwarves are a short, chubby race that tend to be accustomed to the underground. Their land, Andakor, is full of mountains which they have dug into and inhabit today.

[edit] Ents

Enchanted by a small cult of necromancers called the Xylomancers, the Ents are just what the word suggests: a spirit given to wood. The Ents are sometimes considered evil, but they are actually quite gentle creatures.

Ents look just like trees, but have a face-like area on their trunk. They also have a semi-conscious brain, meaning they will do as commanded, but tend to be clumsy. This is the result of not having a brain.

See the Dragons section for more information on how they communicate.

[edit] Dragons

Dragons are the most direct decedents of the fabled Dragonkin. They aren't able to speak, but rather communicate in some unknown way. They can only communicate with the humanoid creatures through roars and other guttural sounds.

Dragons look like a form of an Earth dinosaur, with the neck of a Brontosaurus, the head of your average lizard, the wings of a pterodactyl, the legs and feet of an elephant, a spiked spine and tail (similar to the triceratops, but not quite), and other similarly reptilian features.

[edit] Relevant Places

The continent of Malicha has many kingdoms, including:

  • The United Kingdoms of Malicha, holding:
    • Hanakor, the human land.
      • Ektalor, a province of Hanakor which focuses on farming.
      • The Powers' Territories, a group of provinces devoted each to Magic, Melee, or Archery.
    • Andakor, the Dwarvish mountain land.
  • The Elvish kingdoms, which are:
    • Nimikor, the Elvish forest land.
    • Mo-Katra, the Orcs' wasteland.

and more sub-kingdoms.

[edit] Notes

  • Malicha can be classified as a Non Stereotypical Fantasy World.
    • Malicha may have many humanoid races, but because of this previous fact, humans are considered dominant in most of the land.
      • Much like how the European settlers came to the Americas and (in North America) almost wiped out the native population, the humans of Malicha have exterminated the Elves, Dwarves, and Dragons out of the regions now known as Hanakor, Ektalor, and the areas of Seersa, Servica, Ser-Finas, and the Center Forest, along with Du Nordon Kor du Vik'sen.
