This is an illustration from a 17th century Icelandic manuscript of the Yggdrasill Tree and the creatures that inhabit it. At the top of the tree, an unnamed eagle sits with the hawk, Veðrfölnir, perched on his head. The eagle exchanges harsh words with the Níðhöggr dragon that gnaws at the roots of the tree, in hopes to topple it and destroy the nine realms of Norse Mythology. The squirrel, Ratatöskr takes the messages between the two.
