Serpens Islands
Serpens Islands

Serpens islands are twelve enchanted islands. It is located near of the place where the Sun rises in the morning. Four fairies(daughters of the Sun and the Moon) dwell in those islands: Danae, fairy of fortune; Leda, fairy of savage passion; Aegine, fairy of fire; and Io, fairy of the clouds. Humans and the numinas live in those islands too.

[edit] Myth of the discovering

Many thousands of years ago, an expedition looking for the edges of the supposedly plain world got lost and was shipwrecked after a strong severe storm. They managed to reach a group of islands, but only the explorers from one ship survived and got inland. There were 20 starving survivors and they felt they were hopelessly doomed. A young man named Leopold, hiked into the thick forest of the island, and he discovered a bright fire burning inside what appeared to be a temple, with a garden of flowers. He recognized the divine nature of that fire and he asked for help for him and his fellow explorers. Then the fire took the form of a fiery and beautiful woman, and she kissed him. She revealed her identity to be Aegina, fairy of fire. As Leopold recognized its divinity, he asked her to grant him a wish. She agreed. He wished for food for his friends. She conceded, putting a lunar enchantment over Leopold, who was transformed into a large winged snake(dragon). The snake fertilized the Earth, and this produced abundant fruits. After this the fairy was impregnated too, and she gave birth to the draccides, enchanted serpents with the head and trunk of a beautiful woman. The serpents were capable of seeing visions of probable futures and to cast enchanting spells.

The draccides took the food to the explorers. They fell in love, and each one took a draccide as their wife. They founded a town, and they remained there. Indeed, the draccide blood still flows in the people of Serpens Islands. Sometimes human parents bear draccides. No human saw Leopold again, but it is told that he still lives in the forests of the islands, transformed into a dragon-like creature. Unexplainable pregnancies of young women after they visit the woods are usually attributed to the dragon, specially if the children have supernatural features.
